Workplace Health & Safety

The UCP is Canada’s first and only “convoy government.” They have put vaccine skepticism and hostility to public health measures at the heart of all they do. In the process, they’re jeopardizing the health and safety of Albertans in the workplace and in the broader community.

There’s a need for Albertans to push back. Covid, measles and other communicable diseases are workplace health and safety hazards. We need to demand proper mitigations and protections in the workplace and beyond.

It’s time to:

  • Restore public health to the centre of our province’s health care planning
  • Combat misinformation about public health threats with timely and transparent information, prepared and delivered by experts
  • Commit to sharing all relevant health information with the public
  • Make the right to refuse unsafe work a collective right (as opposed to an exclusively individual right)
  • Implement stronger indoor air quality standards and building code requirements for all Alberta workplaces and public facilities, starting with schools and hospitals
  • Monitor and publicly report on indoor air quality in all workplaces
  • Develop and implement a strong provincial pandemic preparedness strategy
  • Mandate that all employers provide proper PPE for their workers

Other priorities

  • Mandate 10 days of paid sick leave for all workers
  • Introduce mandatory joint workplace health and safety committees in all workplaces
  • Expand the definition of psychological injury and extend WCB presumptive coverage for all psychological and mental injury
  • Increase resources for enforcement of all workplace health and safety issues
